Visions provides OB solutions for the Dubai World Cup, 'the richest two minutes in sport'

Visions backs a winner... again!

Visions were again riding high in providing its trusted solutions to the glamorous world of horse racing, in the shape of the Dubai World Cup at the end of March 2009.

Visions provided 20 tonnes of equipment for the event, using its flypack solutions based upon durable flight cased systems, which are able to be transported anywhere in the world. Visions' flypack solution provided the worldwide feed for the event again this year, as we have done for more than ten years, and delivered the coverage to broadcasters including Channel 4, Sky (in both the UK and Australia) as well as channels in Hong Kong, through production company Sunset & Vine.

The Dubai World Cup has been held annually since the inaugural event in March 1996 and is the brainchild of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and ruler of Dubai. Just over a decade since its launch, the Dubai World Cup has established itself as the piece de résistance of the international horse racing calendar. Between January and March 2009 Dubai hosts an international Racing Carnival which culminated on the 28th March with the Dubai World Cup, the richest two minutes in sport, with a purse of $6 million for the winner. The entire event consists of seven races of varying purses totalling a staggering $21.25 million. More than 50,000 race goers attend the Dubai World Cup Meeting each year.

As Dougie Fletcher, contracts and flypack manager for Visions explains, "This is an event that the team looks forward to every year, thanks to the glamorous location and perfect weather." The location of the event means crucial planning for Visions to ensure that the broadcast goes without a hitch. As Fletcher explains, "You have to go prepared because if the production company come to you with a last minute request there is no popping back to the depot for more equipment; we build flexibility into all our solutions from the outset to ensure we meet all possible requirements, and thanks to our expert engineers we have the technical expertise to deal with any situation that may arise."

The Dubai World Cup is one of Visions' biggest jobs since the Asian Games in Doha, in Qatar in December 2006. At that event Visions took a crew of 80 for six weeks to cover 13 different production areas including five in HD. Involving more than 100 tonnes of equipment and 90 camera channels, it is the biggest single flypack event that Visions has produced.
